Alexanders at Buckeystown Description:
An historic inn in Buckeystown turned fine-dining restaurant, Alexanders is one of those unsung heroes of the local food world. This unique destination offers an American menu with a few twists and turns: take the lunchtime chef's salad, for example. Unlike the traditional version, Alexanders' dish consists of a medley of fresh greens, cheddar croutons, grilled red onions, and chunks of smoky country bacon. For a heartier lunch, the burger is composed of fresh farm beef accented with pimento cheese and red onions, and the crispy catfish is dipped in cornmeal and comes with a chow chow tartar sauce. Be sure to start with the sliders of barbecued brisket on buttermilk country biscuits. And include a sweet for dessert: a limited menu may include, in-season, an old-fashioned strawberry shortcake served on a sugared country biscuit with whipped cream. It's all so good, you may wish to eat two meals at once, or return the next day for a repeat performance. Or you could return for dinner, at which time you'll find a few replays from earlier in the day (such as the chef's salad and the brisket sliders), plus Southern-influenced fare like fried chicken, a barbecue meat platter, and low country shrimp in a cream sauce on grits.
