Mai-Kai Restaurant and Polynesian Show Description:
Polynesian and Oriental cuisine set in an authentic recreation of a Polynesian village. Features a twice-nightly Polynesian revue and a South Seas-style saloon with live music.
Mingle with Broward tourists and regulars at the kitschy and often surreal Mai Kai. Escape to the South Seas for a night of food and entertainment. Is this the set for a movie or real life? The landmark Polynesian theme palace and cocktail lounge is home to the Barrel o' Rum, which is exactly what it sounds like---a generous $11 blend of smooth and spicy rums. Of course, the illustrious Mai Tai is always superb at the Mai Kai. The late-evening hula show is reminiscent of a Love Boat cabaret---tacky, wholesome and entertaining. The Pacific Island cuisine includes a few essentially South Seas dishes, such as Maine lobster Tahitienne, but most are actually Chinese, such as the Canton chicken or the sweet-and-sour pork. Brick oven-roasted Duck Mai Kai is a crisp and delicately spiced novelty. The décor is downright Epcot. Mai Kai is no Trader Vic's, but a good time (in no small part due to the colorful spirits---more than 50 frosty tropical drinks are available---is virtually guaranteed.
