Pier View Beach Bar & Grill Description:
Gaze out at the Folly Beach Pier and the Atlantic Ocean only a couple hundred yards away while you dine. Fortunately, the food experience is equal to the view. Chef Jonathan Hagins has crafted a brief menu that's every bit as slick as the restaurant's modern "under-the-sea" feel. The lunch menu is composed of salads and sandwiches, including a well-crafted grilled pineapple set off with crunchy jícama, countered with a sweet chili sauce. Although the sandwiches are predictable, dinner is more adventuresome. The grilled pineapple reappears, only this time with onions and macadamia nuts. An artful presentation of roasted baby beets garnished with goat cheese and microgreens is left to its own simplicity. Included among several small dishes on a sharing menu is a spicy pan-seared, andouille-crusted grouper, its heat set off against a sweet, green tomato marmalade; and mussels served in a hearty saffron-lobster, bread-soaking sauce spiked with chorizo. Entrées include a saffron-laced cioppino and a local, free-range chicken with Moroccan spices and lemon grass coconut broth. Despite the restaurant's elegance, it is a beachy crowd, so don't worry about dress. In fair weather, you can dine outside on the deck that features a noisy beach bar; inside, a posh bar specializes in mixed drinks and various martinis.
