Horse & Jockey British Pub and Restaurant Description:
Quaint, authentic atmosphere.
High Tea available (given 24 hour notice)
Serving traditional fare such as Bangers & Mash, Chips & Gravy or Curry, Shepherd's Pie, Cornish Pasty & Chips, and a variety of draught beers.
Lunch 11-4
Dinner 4-10
While there are quite a few pubs in the Tampa-St. Petersburg area, not many serve a full high tea (with at least a 24-hour advance notice). The Horse & Jockey makes a big deal out of it. Tea is served on decorated lace tablecloths in four courses. First, there are sausage rolls, then finger sandwiches, followed by scones with cream and jam, and, finally, a homemade trifle. Oh, yes, and tea---a high-quality, varied selection. The pub also specializes in a traditional British dinner on Sundays: a choice of roast pork, roast beef or lamb with mashed potatoes, three vegetables, gravy and salad. Savory pies (cottage, steak and kidney and fish) are another big item on the menu, as well as fish 'n' chips (cod with a beer batter that can be grilled, fried, or even broiled, to order). We also suggest the ploughman's lunch---the traditional sharp cheddar cheese, pickles and a chunk of crispy bread, plus a salad garnish. If you're a fan of British darts, check out the dart team night on Thursday (and if you're less dexterous, but nimble of mind, there's trivia night each Tuesday).

Review :
This pub/restaurant is a mainstay in South Pasadena. For as long as we've been visiting the area it's been open in some capacity. Previous owners had some strange ideas on how a "British Pub" should look and never really achieved what original owners Bernie and Anne set out to do.
Recently however, the Horse and Jockey was purchased again but this time by some Brits! Thankfully they appear to have ploughed some of the profits back into the business and created a "Pub" in every sense of the word.
Some of the alterations that have been made are: the addition of a patio with outside dining, live music, a major cleanup inside, a revamp of the bar, new staff which have been trained in the fine art of manners! Some large TV's, but most importantly liquor! The restaurant could never be faulted for its selection of imported beers, and I'm glad to say the liquor is of the same quality too, with an nice 18yr old Macallen catching my eye.
I had a long chat with the new owner and was told a new menu is launched in mid June, along with a revamped wine list which is long overdue. The food has always been authentic, with the fish and chips being the best I've tasted in the US.
Keep up the good work.
