Friendly Fisherman Waterfront Seafood Restaurant Description:
An area landmark at the John's Pass Bridge Boardwalk.
Built by "Captain Wilson Hubbard" in 1979, the restaurant is a local favorite.
Wilson is no longer with us, but it is still a family run operation.
The second floor restaurant is linked to the ground floor lounge.
Unassisted wheelchair users may find the steep ramp taxing.
This eatery has been a landmark on the John's Pass boardwalk for two decades (a lifetime by Florida restaurant standards) and it still offers inexpensive seafood with a view. Diners can watch the boat and bird traffic up and down John's Pass, and the restaurant is a handy respite for shoppers mobbing the gift and T-shirt shops that line the boardwalk. Nearly 25 seafood platters are offered. Often, there are buffet specials with an emphasis on steak, lobster and chicken. Start with the appetizer of bacon-wrapped jumbo shrimp, then go for the Gulf-fresh grouper, particularly broiled or served as a sandwich. Alternatives include mangrove snapper, tuna, salmon and freshwater snook, when available. The homemade coconut ice cream, served in half a coconut shell, is a dessert favorite. If the kitchen's not too busy, the restaurant also offers a you-catch-it, we-cook-it option. Be sure to call ahead.
