Canopies Description:
Located in a roomy turn-of-the-last-century house with huge windows overlooking St. Andrews Bay, Canopies ranks as one of Panama City's most gracious restaurants. The menu is coastal contemporary with a few Mediterranean and Asian flourishes. New Orleans-style barbecued shrimp over andouille-laced grit cakes is an excellent meal starter, matched only by the pan-fried crab cakes napped with roasted garlic beurre blanc. Inventive touches---like grilled yellowfin tuna paired with wasabi butter and a luxe lobster spring roll or pistachio- and honey mustard-crusted rack of Australian lamb---show creativity in the kitchen. The restaurant offers a froufrou martini menu, but refreshingly, it also has an extensive selection of single malt scotches, along with a decent wine list.
