The homemade touches and old-fashioned prices are the remarkable aspects of Pete & Shorty's Tavern, not the standard burgers and sandwiches. Those include the ninety-five-cent Shorty Burger, the Loose-Meat Pete sandwich (tastes a whole lot better than it sounds), Loose-Meat Repeat (bigger), and a side of homemade mashed potatoes. You can also get a side of green beans or a cup of french fries. The bargains are everywhere here, as is the friendly staff. This is a good place to stock up en route to the beach---a straight shot westward down Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard. Although the fried pickles alone are enough for a detour.
