ALBABENSHAL Description:
Albabenshal is spectacularly set outside the jagged ruins of Old Shali, a 13th century citadel in the center of downtown Siwa. Ancient, dilapidated Siwan homes were restored using kershef, a mixture of sun dried salt, mud and sand, to build the lodge modeled after the original structures that once filled the fortress. Albabenshal offers guests 11 rooms on three levels connected through alleyways and terraces overlooking the center of the town on one side and the fantastic ruins of the fortress on the other. On the main terrace, Albabenshal Restaurant serves a menu of Siwan traditional dishes adapted to more modern tastes. Dishes include a range of dishes such as Curcuma Rice, Shakshouka , and One Thousand Leaf Fetir. .

Driving direction to ALBABENSHAL:
Take the Cairo?Alexandria desert road. At the 101 km make a U turn left to take Tarik El Geish which is Al Alamein connecting road. This road intersects with the Alexandria. Marsa Matrouh road after 134Km U turn in the direction of Marsa Matrouh on the Alex. Matrouh highway stop at El Alamein Hotel for a rest and refresh ment. 18 km before Marsa Matrouh look for Tam Oilgas station. Stop there to fill up. It is the last gas station before the village of Siwa. Go to Saloum. U turn less than one kilometer after Tam Oil. That leads you to the ring road around Marsa Matrouh. Continue until you reach a military police checkpoint, immediately after which there is a U turn to take the road to Siwa. After approximately 300 kilometers, there is a military police check point, not necessarily manned. Once you have passed the Siwan door Welcome to Siwa, continue straight ahead until you find the Siwa polica station. Turn on the left of the station. You will find yourself on the market place, the Old fortress of Shali on your right. Turn on the left on the market place, a small coffee shop should be on your right, and continue straight ahead in the palm tree grove. You should find Shali Lodge on your left 500m after the market place. .
