Review :
I've been visiting this establishment for years, and in that time, I've had a chance to try most of their breakfast/brunch, lunch and dinner offerings.
These cowgirls have got it nailed when it comes to salads (haven't found another restaurant that offers a comparable selection of delicious salads), brunch items (huevos rancheros, tofu scramble and fluffy pancakes) and vegetarian sandwiches (the famous tofu clubhouse is a customer fave, but the grilled tofu, spinach-mozza pita and grilled portobello are also lovely).
The service can vary from very pro and attentive to novice, but the overall laid back attitude (and limited sized dining room) of the restaurant urges one to go at the pace of the staff and enjoy the rock and roll/local art surroundings.
The price point had definitely risen over the last decade, but I wonder how much Whyte Ave. rents might have to do with it. It's still worth it when you think of the many Denny's style offerings of the rest of the city.
This place has an almost cult-like following for a reason: vegetarian favourites, a 'take it or leave it' hip atmosphere, and a great locale.
Oh, and did I mention the vegan chocolate cake? I have many friends, vegans and non-vegans alike, who are time and time again sated of their sweet spot or chocolate fix by this deceptively simple, spectacularly fruit adorned finale.
