Like typical Parisian bistros on the famous market street for which this eatery is named, Rue Cler takes no reservations. Just drop in for classics such as coq au vin, moules frites, salade niçoise, and soupe à l'oignon gratinée, served up smack in the middle of downtown Durham. A three-course dinner of more creative fare is offered, prepared with the same Gallic attitude, but the old traditional standards are the mainstay of the menu. Don't miss the topnotch buttery house pâté and delicate dessert crêpes. Rue Cler's wine list, true to character, focuses on moderately priced French wines. Servers are fully up to speed on the wines, which are chosen to go with the food. The entire restaurant is non-smoking.
