Revolution Description:
You can just feel the energy of this beautiful, glass-fronted urban restaurant oozing out onto Durham's Main Street. The dream child of Jim Anile, former chef of Chapel Hill's Il Palio, Revolution is the place to go before or after an event at the Durham Performing Arts Center, a downtown gallery opening or just to enjoy a leisurely multicourse dinner. Dubbed "global contemporary," the seasonal menu draws on Anile's experiences in Europe and Asia, as well as fine West Coast, Texas and New York restaurants. Architecturally and gastronomically, Anile appreciates the concept of "less is more," and his unfussy dishes demonstrate a confident touch. House-made pappardelle with butter and shaved fresh truffles, lamb sausage with mint yogurt, and lobster salad with lemon and caviar showcase his trademark simplicity. Roast suckling pig with braised cabbage and new potatoes is a well done rustic dish. The menu is cleverly divided into small, big and raw sections, all priced for value. A pricier tasting menu offers a chance to splurge. Classic cocktails are offered at the bar, and the small but selective wine list focuses on moderately priced bottles from carefully chosen vineyards.
