Maggiano's Little Italy Description:
Located across the street from the tony Mazza Gallerie, the Washington branch of this New York-style trattoria shares an entrance with the Corner Bakery. Maggiano's is best known for its large portions served family style, covering the range of Italian dishes and desserts. Although usually crowded and on the noisy side, the atmosphere and service unhurried, deliberately reminiscent of postwar Little Italy. The Sunday brunch is also popular with locals.
Hip Italian ambience in the New York manner and giant portions define Maggiano's. Both aspects attract standing-room crowds of all ages, making for a fun, frenzied atmosphere. It's no use stopping by unless you're hungry, because every dish easily serves two, maybe more---although you can order half portions. Even the breadbasket is skyscraper high with wedges of focaccia, while the wine glasses overflow. Best flavors? The roasted red peppers with sheets of fresh Parmesan and the garlic mashed potatoes. We also recommend the roast chicken with its sprinkling of garlic, rosemary and olive oil. Best dessert? The dense chocolate zuccoto cake. Plan ahead and make reservations, or you'll have to wait with the hungry hordes. Also located at 1790 International Dr., McLean, VA, 703-356-9000.
