Café La Ruche Description:
This French-inspired old favorite in Georgetown may still be a local tradition, but it's starting to feel timeworn, and the menu needs some revivifying. It offers a mix of soups, entrée salads, sandwiches and light and regular entrées such as paella and beef bourguignon with pasta (which doesn't seem particularly French). Considering the French background music, we opted for a classic meal, starting with potato leek soup (too thin) and onion soup (too little flavor), then moved on to the house special, the croque monsieur. Ideally, this sandwich should be crispy yet eggy, flavorful yet subtle. It was neither. The high point of the meal was the crème caramel, as rich and firm as made in any haute kitchen in the city.
