El Tamarindo Description:
The rolled and filled pancake-like snacks (pupusas) served here are sensational---tender wrappers enfold a variety of fillings from beans to cheese to pork, and a combination of the same. We eat our fill, but save room for the other house specialty, cilantro chicken, a dish of cubed breast, doused in liberal amounts of oil and butter speckled with cilantro, and served with the ubiquitous scoops of beans and rice. There's also a chorizo taco, chiles rellenos and the tortitas de carne, beef patties stuffed with cilantro and spices. Besides being an ultracasual neighborhood kind of place, El Tamarindo has the unique distinction of being open from 11 a.m. to 5 a.m. daily. Can't sleep? Stop in for a pupusa or two. Also located at 7331 Georgia Ave. NW, Washington, DC, 202-291-0525.
