Cafe Soleil Description:
Café Soleil looks as if it wants to mimic a Parisian bistro upgraded to a small chic brasserie. The ambience works with the shining tableware on a pristine white cloth contrasting with a well-polished dark wood bar, Art-Deco mirror and pseudo Toulouse Lautrec Moulin Rouge frescos. In this French environment, Café Soleil cannot decently escape the French bistro's usual fare, such as escargots, onion soup, vichyssoise, tournedos and bavette---all authentic and worthy of trying. But the restaurant has other ambitions such as offering a choice of eclectic tapas like hummus and smoked salmon. Italian? That's here, too, with a risotto navigateur, grilled veal scaloppine and a choice of pasta dishes. You might stay on neutral ground with a breast of chicken or a tuna au poivre (au poivre is so much more chic than pepper-crusted), guaranteed by the menu to be seared to perfection, although that does not always seem to be the case.
