Acadiana Description:
Jeff Tunks's splashiest effort in DC reflects his Big Easy cooking life, and the results are splendid, if a bit overwhelming. A large, stately and almost ship-like interior suggests an luxury liner, with the kitchen positioned mid-dining room, and the two dining areas on an upper and a lower level. In the mid-level, you'll find the bar with its overhead TV and sleek seating. Busy, busy Acadiana takes you on a nostalgia trip to Bayou country, and even the décor suggests southern comfort: flashes of wrought-iron grillwork, overwrought crystal chandeliers, even a foot-high alligator statue. Tunks's menu also mirrors the lushness of Southern cuisine with such appetizers as fried green tomatoes, char-boiled oysters, chicken and smoked andouille sausage jambalaya, and Lake Pontchartrain-style crispy fried catfish. We enjoy the oyster po' boy, here called the peacemaker, a fitting tribute to New Orleans and Southern cooking at its best. Desserts corral Southern flavors as well and include a pecan tart served with bourbon-enhanced chocolate ice cream and a caramel sauce. Now that's some mighty fine eating.
