Marvin Description:
DC's hometown son and a famous musician, Marvin Gaye has earned a restaurant named after him. Perhaps the noisiest eatery in DC, and certainly one of the most crowded, Marvin attracts the twenty-something crowds, who gather to eat, socialize, and listen to background jazz. But serious foodies who care more about menus than music can tune into some of the area's best soul food with a mishmash of Belgian-inspired dishes thrown in. The fried chicken-Belgian waffle combo with Brussels sprouts or greens is a surprisingly tasty dish. Crispy chicken dunked into maple syrup? Yes. Other options, of course, include the traditional Belgian fave mussels and frites, and goodies such as shrimp and grits, steak frites, and lobster waterzoi. Dessert recommendations: the lemon pound cake or the roasted-banana pudding. You'll find plenty of wines by the glass, Belgian beers and bar drinks. The upstairs lounge and the rooftop garden are popular destinations in this U Street restaurant. But wherever you intend to sit, be sure to make reservations, especially at peak hours.
