Cork Wine Bar Description:
Along the 14th St. corridor, Cork surely stands out for its diminutive size and its maximal crowds, all jammed in around the downstairs bar and cocktail tables. Because the dining area is so very small, you might become best buddies with those at adjacent tables. Food-wise, the kitchen does not keep pace with expectations. Dishes needing work: the roasted Brussels sprouts (overcooked) and pan-crisped brioche sandwich (cheese hadn't melted). Dishes to order again: Angus flatiron steak, sautéed wild mushrooms, and Lizzie's goat cheese cake. Even if the kitchen's handiwork leaves something to be desired, the name of the game here is really the see-and-be-seen scene for the twentysomething crowds. Because its main claim to fame is its status as a wine bar, be sure to check out the short-but-sweet wine list, and also ask to be notified of upcoming wine-tasting events.
