Art & Soul Restaurant Description:
One of Capitol Hill's classiest eateries is on the ground floor of The Liaison Capitol Hotel, just off the lobby, making this a convenient stopover for Hill types on their way to or from meetings: keep your ears open, as you may hear some interesting political tidbits. It's also the brainchild of owner-chef Art Smith, and showcases comforting Southern regional cooking handled gently. There's a 45-minute prix-fixe lunch menu with components culled from the standard menu, and if you are dashing to a committee meeting somewhere, take advantage of the pronto service and still enjoy the trademark hoecakes (topped with a toss of greens and cheese), the ultra-crunchy fried chicken, and one of the signature baby cakes, or mini cupcakes that come in designer flavors and colors. More midday or evening leisure will allow you to sample noontime trout with roasted beets, a steak sandwich or rockfish tacos; in the evening, look for such entrées as lamb chops with poached pears, salmon with roasted potatoes, and Prime filet of beef with apple horseradish butter, plus all sorts of must-have sides. Because it is a hotel restaurant, it offers a limited breakfast menu of such sturdy choices as steel-cut oatmeal, a farmer's breakfast, and whole-wheat waffles.
