The Love Cafe offers coffee, tea, specialty drinks and slices of cake and small deserts baked at Cakelove, its parent bakery.
In urban coffeehouse fashion, The Love Cafe hosts musicians, poetry readings and other forms of artistic expression.
The Love Cafe is near the U Street/Cardoza stop on Metro's Green line.
You may find sandwiches (roasted turkey, tandoori tofu), brewed coffees and salads at this U Street spot, but if you are a dessert lover, the main reason you drop by is for a slab of one of Warren Brown's sensational cakes. An offshoot---really, a sit-down destination---for his nearby CakeLove bakery, this café is supplied with towering cakes that are whimsical creations of Brown, who left the legal profession to bake. Anything chocolate is guaranteed to drive you mad, but you may want to take home a wedge of a strawberry-flavored cake. Other pastries, cookies, cupcakes, cheesecakes and scones are available, but the cakes are the name of the game here.
