Sabor Latino Description:
This festive and unpretentious eatery serves both South American and Mexican dishes to Highlands neighborhood crowds. It's where the locals come when they want empanadas---addictive turnovers packed with a spicy meat and onion mixture---or pudgy chile rellenos stuffed with cheese and smothered with green chile. Tamales are steamed in banana leaves and served with a piquant, chunky salsa and the shrimp Veracruz and citrus-y ceviche are big hit with seafood fans. On Friday and Saturday evenings, the chef makes authentic South American paella; the paella dinner for two includes a bottle of Chilean wine. The wine list is modest, but there's a good selection of tequilas. Dense, creamy flan is our favorite dessert.
