Barolo Grill Description:
Successfully capturing a rustic, Tuscan feel with its interior tangle of grapevines and twinkling white lights, Barolo Grill continues this theme with an inspired menu of Northern Italian specialties. The tasting menu, drawing upon the cuisines of Piedmont, Tuscany and the Veneto, is a chef's selection of five courses (optionally paired with wine) that changes seasonally, but might include tempura-fried prawns, insalata di puttanesca, a warm seafood salad with capers and olives, potato gnocchi floating in a seafood bisque, pan-seared halibut served with braised leeks and, for dessert, basil semifreddo with balsamic-glazed strawberries. The à la carte portion of the menu touts familiar Italian dishes, but executive chef Brian Laird adds contemporary twists, turning out everything from roasted pork shoulder rolled in thyme and plated with a mushroom ragù to polenta-crusted venison served with sweet semolina fritters and the soft-shell crab crowned with a tomato-basil compound butter. The vast---and pricey---wine list favors Italian varietals, several of which are offered by the glass.
