Sushi Island Description:
Located along dreary Newport Boulevard, Sushi Island is a rather good spot for a reasonable Japanese-style lunch or dinner. The ambience is definitely Costa Mesa casual, with light woods and bamboo everywhere. So Cal sushi house staples abound here on the simple menu. Look for California rolls, tuna and yellowtail sushi, vegetable tempura, miso soup and beef teriyaki. Soft shell crab, when in season, is artfully flash-fried in a light batter. Reservations are recommended on weekends for parties of five or more.
