Old Vine Cafe Description:
Old Vine Café is a tiny indoor-outdoor bistro located at the environmentally-friendly The Camp shopping center in Costa Mesa's SoBeCa district. Chef Mark McDonald, along with his front-of-house brother Brandon, serves up innovative and seasonal global dishes, focusing on the cuisines of France, Spain and Italy. Breakfast is especially popular in this small space, where hipsters drink strong organic coffee and chow down on dishes such as a pulled pork and Gouda cheese omelet, caramel apple french toast and Italian sausage with homemade biscuits smothered in pancetta gravy. At lunch, you can still order most breakfast items, but the brothers McDonald also add soups, salads and panini sandwiches. There are three four-course tasting menus (original, seasonal and vegetarian) at dinner. From the original menu, we enjoy the scallop starter in a creamy tarragon sauce, grandma's tangy and sweet cheesecake and the ahi crisps with wasabi crème fraîche and a sweet soy demi-glace. Another reason to visit Old Vine Café is the affordable selection of both cheese and wine, all of which can be taste-tested while dining.
