The structure of this New American dining spot, which initially served as a schoolhouse before the Civil War, has been restored to its original condition with hardwood floors and wooden chairs reminiscent of its former life. The beige and black houndstooth-pattern banquette seating and other rustic touches in the spacious room provide an elegant dining scene. Emphasizing locally grown ingredients are the appetizer salad with roasted pearl onions, yellow beets and pine nuts and the Jerusalem artichoke soup with spring onions. Entrées reflect the same philosophy, as in the tender Berkshire pork loin served with polenta croutons, mustard greens and cippolini onions.
