A state-of-the-art kitchen and an antique grist mill can make for a formidable combination. Add the river view from a pleasantly sedate dining room and you have one of Connecticut's favorite special occasion spots. The kitchen bills its cuisine as "traditional European," and so, going in both haute and Med directions, it is---sautéed escargots is blended with spinach and tomatoes on a garlic crouton; roasted duck breast in raspberry demi-glace mixes it up with wild mushroom risotto; sautéed calf's liver with caramelized onions and shallots gets nuovo tang from a balsamic reduction. Sunday brunch features a lovely take on eggs Benedict, which includes Chesapeake crab cakes, and stuffed french toast with a raspberry maple glaze is memorable too.
