Deepwood Description:
Before you start picturing DeepWood as being somewhere in the woods of Maine, consider where this restaurant got its name. It's actually named after the road where owner Amber Herron grew up in Easton, Connecticut. Her intent was to offer cozy family meals like those of her childhood. She has succeeded. Two concepts in one, DeepWood offers a front room designed as a neighborhood gathering place, called DW, featuring upscale casual cuisine. The back room, called DeepWood, is more formal. The DeepWood menu offers diverse choices such as Vermont quail, rabbit, duck, lamb, venison, seafood and steak. The de-shelled, slow-poached Maine lobster is a winner, with pumpkin gnocchi, mustard greens and Madeira orange beurre blanc. The venison chop is every bit as appetizing, paired with parsnip-potato purée, wilted spinach and lingonberry sauce. For dessert, savor the butterscotch pot de crème with fresh whipped cream, honey tuile and chocolate-dipped apricots.
