Clarmont Description:
The Clarmont tradition has changed little since established in the 50's, prime aged steak, fresh seafood and other fine dining American entrees. The service has attracted downtown executives, politicians and other suits for many years, hard liquor and cigars are acceptable at least until the upcoming smoking ban. A new ventilation system is in the works that may aleviate the smoking problem, however the traditional environment faces a more serious change under the ban. Besides the power lunches and dinners, this restaurant is also popular as an upscale breakfast spot. Easily spotted on S. High St. by the 50's style trapozoid shaped sign.
This is one of the longest-running restaurants in Columbus, so it's safe to assume they're doing something right. Namely, that's serving traditional steaks, chops and grilled fish with comforting sides, like baked or mashed potatoes. The lamb osso buco and prime rib of beef are both topnotch. Upping the ante, the prime rib is seasoned and roasted on-site daily. When it's gone, it's gone so it's essential to get there early. Waitresses have crazy hairdos, have been here forever and routinely take your order without a pencil and pad. Located just south of downtown, The Clarmont has long been a place for old-time power meetings, beginning at breakfast.
