King Gyro's Restaurant Description:
Born in Greece, owner Yanni Chalkias has been in the restaurant business most of his life. He loves what he's doing---it shows---and sharing family recipes with diners is his joy. We favor the daily specials, all of which include a cup of homemade soup and side of pita bread. We recommend the 14-ounce lamb shanks, bone-in and slow-cooked for over five hours and served with a side of saffron rice, vegetables and dill sauce. Another hit is dolmades, tender, hand-rolled grape leaves stuffed with rice, ground beef, finely chopped vegetables and Greek herbs and topped with creamy lemon dill sauce. Or, try the juicy feta burger and Greek fries. Not surprisingly, there's baklava for dessert. Besides the traditional syrupy version, there's also gourmet chocolate, strawberry cheesecake and pistachio bird's nest, the latter being our favorite. The pastry is stuffed with Greek custard and topped with crushed pistachios.
