Radek Cerny may be one of Boulder's most eccentric chefs, but even those who raise their eyebrows at Cerny's enigmatic, often quirky, demeanor, know that he's capable of cooking impressive food, which he does at Full Belly, an affordable breakfast-lunch-and-dinner bistro that unleashes lively dishes that are free of pretense. Morning glories include playful pancakes and waffles, some dotted with chocolate chips, others studded with fresh apples; and then there are the peanut butter and jelly pancakes that every kid wishes was his school sandwich. During the lunch rush, the kitchen turns out praiseworthy sandwiches, pastas and hearty dishes like a mellow yellow coconut milk pork curry fragrant with Thai basil. But it's during dinner that Full Belly really lives up to its name, unfurling starters of steak tartare and pâté forestière and entrées that zigzag from the braised Colorado lamb shank with root vegetables and beans to beer-soaked mussels flecked with fresh herbs and tomatoes. As an added perk---and fine foil to the food---the restaurant offers 39 wines for $39.
