Table 45 Description:
Chef Zack Bruell is well known in Cleveland culinary circles, particularly for his quietly hot Parallax in the Tremont neighborhood. He's also the man behind the menu at the sleek Table 45 inside the InterContinental Hotel & Conference Center, located on the campus of the Cleveland Clinic. The previous restaurant, Classics, was all white tablecloths, armies of tuxedoed servers and traditional French cuisine. Table 45 (named, it's said, for the best seat in the house at Parallax) couldn't be a more distant relative. Here, the wood is blond, and the frosted glass is plentiful. Like lingerie, this strategically placed element is meant to give passersby a glimpse, but not a full view, of diners secluded behind semi-private partitions. Bruell's menu wanders through Vietnam (by way of pho), India (a tandoori oven in the kitchen turns out naan), Peru (pork pinchitos) and Japan (panko-crusted chicken wings served with sweet soy glaze)---and that's just the appetizers. Salad, meat and fish selections draw inspiration from equally far-flung ports of call, but perhaps the most enduring feature is the one that seems closest to Cleveland in spirit: the signature grilled chicken breast with watercress and pommes frites with beurre blanc.
