Iron Horse Inn Description:
Glendale, a suburban oasis of Victorian houses on wide lawns, is the serene setting for the Iron Horse Restaurant. Originally a railroad hotel (the trains still rumble by) and a favorite fine dining spot in the '60s and '70s, it was rescued from decline in the '90s by a Glendale family who spent a bundle of money and time on its renovation. The result is an assured and welcoming inn with a sense of history, revived to appeal to a broad range of diners. Downstairs is rather formal, handsomely appointed and very, very red. The contemporary hunting lodge ambience upstairs is more congenial, with live jazz on Fridays and Saturdays. Entrées include a beef tenderloin filet and pan-seared Alaskan halibut. A chocolate cappuccino crème brûlée and wild berry shortcake are among desserts.
