Cactus Pear Restaurant Description:
This Southwestern-tinged bistro near the University of Cincinnati campus draws a college crowd for its specialty margaritas and Dos Equis on tap as well as its smoky, roasted tomato salsa. Everything about this place is eclectic---from the murals painted by local artists to the Latin-inspired dishes. Finds include Caribbean fajitas, fish tacos and Aztec tofu sandwiches---all aimed at pleasing a diverse, though not particularly adventurous, crowd. The Cactus Pear serves a surprising selection of Tex-Italian pastas, too, including the house-specialty red-pepper noodles. Of course, this casual hangout can be pricey for what it is: not exactly Mexican and not exactly authentic anything else. Still, you can't go wrong with the shrimp Marguerite, especially if you wash it all down with a margarita or two. And don't forget to try the guacamole.
