One North Description:
Dubbed a "contemporary American brasserie," this restaurant often tries to be too many things to too many people. The relentlessly trendy, globally accented selection bops from Kobe beef with red wine reduction and harissa-spiced rack of lamb to a Thai salad with peanut-ginger dressing. (Don't bother with the burger.) A hodgepodge of ingredients spoils some dishes, while others are undone by careless preparation. The hazelnut-crusted trout---served with corn-mushroom custard---is among the few hits, along with the molten chocolate cake. Other dishes may include tuna with eggplant caponata; pan-roasted cod with shiitakes, corn and balsamic butter; and duck breast with shallot confit, chestnuts and polenta gnocchi. The spacious, but loud, dining room and bar done in warm woods and stone is handsome enough, which is a plus. During opera season, the restaurant is open for dinner on Saturdays.
