Mundial Cafe Description:
Katie and Eusevio Garcia have left this ambitious BYO in Pilsen, selling their shares to partner Mario Cota. In the kitchen is Oaxaca-born Hector Marcial (a KDK restaurants vet), and he has crafted visually appealing---and frequently memorable---plates like duck breast with capulin-pulla and pea-ancho sauces and vibrant, grilled shrimp with fresh romeritos, shallots, asparagus, roasted red peppers and bacon-Swiss chard fried rice. From Mexican-style paella, cowboy steak with macaroni strudel or pan-seared char with lump crab-potato mash and pepper escabeche, there's plenty to contemplate (and enough to excite). The setting walks the line between being approachable and fine, though the vibe is always come-as-you-are. On the plate, though, there's magic.
