Cotes Du Rhone Description:
If it's true that we eat with our eyes---and we're big believers in that theory---then diners at the very dark Cotes du Rhone are missing out on part of the experience. But even without the visuals, the food at this Edgewater bistro is worthy of a visit, especially with its (possibly permanent) BYOB policy and personal and friendly service. Chef Brian Moulton polished his French culinary skills at Café Bernard and it shows in dishes such as cassoulet, bouillabaisse and house-made pâté with black truffles. The sautéed calamari starter is big on flavor with lots of tomatoes, garlic and kalamata olives. The filet mignon special---is that truffle oil we smell?---is tender and properly cooked, as are the accompanying roasted vegetables. Pan-seared scallops get an extra boost from a citrus-brown butter sauce.
