The Palm Description:
For those who remember the old Palm in the now-shuttered Mayfair-Regent Hotel (it went condo), the larger location of this branch of a Washington, DC-based chain may be a disappointment. The patina of age has given way to polish, epitomized by the gleaming wood floors that have replaced sawdust-strewn ones. Proving it doesn't take itself too seriously, though, cartoons of local and national celebs plaster the walls. Beef remains king, of course, and the well-aged steaks deserve their high reputation. Gargantuan lobsters (three pounds and up), on the other hand, may arrive overdone, a crime considering their cost. There's always the option of dining during happy hour (Monday-Friday 4:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m.-close), when there's a $3.50 bar bites menu.
