Rinconcito Sudamericano Description:
The neighborhood has gotten trendy around this unpretentious storefront, but the restaurant remains largely the same---right down to the slightly garish atmosphere and amateurish service. The attraction is the most extensive Peruvian menu in town, which is served at the most reasonable of prices. The adventurous can sample anticuchos, skewered beef hearts in spicy red sauce, and cau-cau, tripe and potato with fiery Scotch bonnet peppers in a sauce tinted yellow by annatto seeds. Less challenging specialties include papa rellena (a meat-filled orb of mashed potato), deep-fried stuffed squid and chicken in satiny nut cream. Among the many seafood entrées, those with lobster aren't worth the extra money. Also, pass on the duck, and expect meats to be chewy. Almost everything except pasta comes with potato in some form. The Pisco sour is the national cocktail, though the selection of South American wines is good and inexpensive, too.
