Emperor's Choice Description:
Seafood stars at the handsome-enough storefront decorated with elaborately embroidered royal robes and drawings of the Chinese emperors who might have worn them. Poached shrimp (worth the work involved in de-shelling them), clams or giant oysters in black-bean sauce as well as lobster, stir-fried with scallions and ginger or Peking-style in a hearty brown sauce, are among the highlights. Two long lists of specials supplement the menu, and family-style dinners tap into the kitchen's strengths. In general, the Cantonese choices outshine Szechwan and Hunan ones. If you're adventurous, try a casserole of sea cucumber, fish lips and black mushrooms. Service may be the best in Chinatown, but that's not saying much.
