The Chicago Firehouse Restaurant Description:
This turn-of-the-century firehouse was converted into a restaurant and, from the outside, it still looks like a firehouse. Inside, some of the firehouse extras---a tin ceiling, fire poles, glazed tile brick wall---were kept for the atmosphere. Though capacious, the space has a comfortable, warm feeling, with linens and nice tableware. The menu tries not to miss a dish: meatloaf, salads, pizza, sandwiches. Chicken piccata is quite good; so is the strip steak. Snapper on two occasions was severely overcooked. There's always the escargot in garlic butter, a mango and chili-rubbed pork chop or cedar-planked Dover sole. The place is not exactly setting the world on fire, but it's pretty solid nonetheless.
