Bricks Description:
The Neapolitan pie war is relatively new in deep-dish Chicago, but Lincoln Park's Bricks has been serving up its thin-crust versions since 1997. The basement location may be claustrophobic for some; others will find it downright cozy. Either way, be prepared for things to get loud in the casual restaurant's two rooms. There are 16 pies to choose from, available in three sizes, plus a make-your-own option. The combination of ingredients on the Popeye---fresh spinach, tomatoes, roasted garlic, tomato sauce, feta and mozzarella---work well together and are a good foil for the crunchy-yet-chewy crust underneath. If the white clam pizza special with garlic, béchamel sauce and mozzarella is available, get it. Skip the smattering of sandwich and pasta offerings but do start with one of the salads, perhaps the house with chunks of Maytag blue cheese. There's an interesting selection of craft beers and imports, including ones from Unibroue and Chimay, as well as a pizza-friendly wine list.
