Browntrout Description:
As good neighborhood restaurants go, it doesn't get any better than this North Center spot, with its charming setting---lots of dark wood, a welcoming communal table, a cozy bar in the back---and wallet-friendly flavorful food. Chef Sean Sanders, formerly of Bin 36, creates contemporary American cuisine with an emphasis on market-fresh ingredients, some from the restaurant's rooftop garden (this eco-friendly slant comes into play throughout the dining experience). The menu features a mix of large and small plates, including creamy whipped brandade, a juicy chicken thigh paired with polenta, and pasta with lamb meatballs. Sharing is definitely a good option. Desserts are straightforward, such as the chocolate chip cookies (with a recipe courtesy of Sander's grandmother); fittingly, they're served with a glass of organic milk. An added feel-good detail: The restaurant is named after a simple but memorable meal the chef-owner and his wife prepared while hiking on their honeymoon in New Zealand.
