Basil Thai Cuisine Description:
Basil Thai offers a friendly and fresh take on Thai food in downtown Charlotte. Sleek wood, glass and mirrors give the space a sophisticated, urban chic feeling, and the chandeliers, which appear to be adorned with chrysanthemums, are eye-catching. But what keeps diners coming back is the straight up, well prepared Thai food. Starters include a nicely done egg roll with no meat, a winner for any vegetarian, and larb (chicken or beef) with generous amounts of mint, scallions and chili. House specialties include pad thai. Basil duck is half a fried duck topped with Basil's house sauce. Executive chef Suntom Cherdchoogarm's signature dish is fried duck with red curry sauce. We recommend both the green and red curries; they have plenty of heat and the soothing tones of coconut combined. Noodle and rice dishes include a tasty version of traditional pad see-eu, chock full of broccoli and satisfying wide rice noodles. Desserts include sticky rice with mango and fried green tea ice cream, a nice surprise. The bar is a welcoming place for post-work and some nice house cocktails, but wines by the glass are equally winning. Service is efficient and friendly.
