Common House Neighborhood Restaurant & Bar Description:
With Emily Hahn as chef, the team of Michael Fisher, Ryan Looney and Andrew Robinson continues a winning run focused on freshly prepared regional cuisine. Three TVs over the bar make Common House function as both restaurant and sports bar, helping it give off a good neighborhood vibe. Check out nicely fried (crispy, not greasy) pickles, as well as fried green tomatoes served with a spicy mayonnaise. A Southern favorite, pimento cheese, shows up in several places on the menu, but our favorite is in the grilled cheese with bacon. Hahn doesn't limit herself to the great South: her gazpacho shines with classic flavor and textures. The restaurant's team sources topnotch ingredients, such as grass-fed Piedmontese steak for the steak sandwich. The same source supplies the highest price item on the menu, a New York strip steak. Pasture-raised pork from local producers is used for the pulled pork sandwich. Simple, Southern dessert classics round out the menu: sweet potato pound cake is a treat. The short wine list leaves us wanting more---drinks to pair with the food, for example. How about some of the North Carolina wines, some of which are quite worthy?
