Whenever local families or office workers need their spirits lifted, they head to this gaily decorated eatery that offers terrific, inexpensive food. The menu features an assortment of zesty tacos, burritos, enchiladas and fajitas with authentic flavor. And the kitchen surprises everyone with some offbeat dishes as well, such as chilies en nogada (meat-stuffed jalapeños) and caldo tlalpeño (chicken consommé with chipotle chilies, chicken and chick peas). We're hooked on the chile verde tacos and the carne guisada tacos made with lean beef simmered in a dusky, chili-flavored sauce. Also a must: the chicken mole. Dieters can find light fare, including a cactus salad. Kids have their own menu, and they eat free with a paying adult on Mondays. Sometimes it looks too crowded to venture in, but the takeout service is fast and efficient.
