The Rockyard American Grill and Brewing Company is a brew pub restaurant. The family owned and operated restaurant has a full time brewer who taught me how to drink beer and explained about how much better fresh beer is compared to the bottled variety. The beer at the rockyard is always fresh and comes directly from the big refrigerated cooling tanks to the tap at the bar. Enjoy it with the Cream of Jalapeno Soup, or a burger. I like to eat the soup as a chip dip along with a cold beer. The restaurant has a full bar and a very large screen TV where the customers watch the season's sport. The service is efficient and friendly.
Until now most Denverites headed to Castle Rock to take advantage of the town's outlet shopping opportunities. But these days there's another reason for heading south to this bargain-blessed burg---craft beer. Rockyard's Wayne Waananen is making some of the Front Range's best beers, flavorful ales that will thrill even the most demanding beer nerd. And he couldn't have a nicer setting to do so, as this brewpub is a spacious lodge-style place with food as satisfying as the brew. The menu offers top-shelf takes on pub fare, starting with a selection of killer nibbles. We swirl over the homemade onion rings, three-finger thick circles dipped in doughy deep-fried batter. The burgers are juicy and cooked just right, the list of grade-A sandwiches includes a foot-long beer dog that fills. Pasta plates and entrées of beef, bird and fish are mighty fine. The beer list? Don't miss the hoppy pale ale, the hefty darker beers and the changing list of seasonals.
