Appalachian Grill Description:
As this metro Atlanta town upgrades its charming downtown, adding coffee shops and antiques stores, the restaurant scene is likewise improving. Appalachian Grill meets a fine dining need for folks in the 'burbs with fresh fish and steaks. It has also contributed greatly to the renovation of downtown Cartersville's historic structures, and added a cozy bar to its social scene. Under the Bridge is the vernacular designation of the series of renovated commercial spaces that include the restaurant. Nearby is the Booth Museum of Western Art, which could provide a well-rounded excursion along with dining at Appalachian Grill. The atmosphere is warm, enhanced by brick walls, dark woods and attractive lighting. Andrea Wallace, the owner's wife, did the interiors. We especially liked our shared appetizer of tender, juicy popcorn Cajun (but not too spicy) crawfish tails with chipotle-honey mustard and a very good horseradish-hit cocktail sauce. A pot roast lunch special with real mashed potatoes spelled comfort on a chilly day at a great price. If you have room for dessert, you'll find most are done in-house, including a crème brûlée. The wine list isn't exciting, but there are some surprises on it, such as the Joseph Phelps Pastiche (both red and white). Good work! Service is attentive and very brisk.
