Bistro West Description:
This spacious, high-energy restaurant is the more casual cousin of West Steak & Seafood. Bistro West offers American cuisine like pasta, pizza, burgers and comfort classics such as chicken potpie, meatloaf and beef Stroganoff in satisfying portions. Although we like the ahi tartare with mango salsa as an appetizer, the chicken lettuce wraps in sweet chili and Thai coconut sauce or the roasted beets with goat cheese are nice starters too. The restaurant does a fine job with the stone hearth pizzas, but we would put its burgers on the San Diego short list (especially when they are topped with caramelized onions, mushrooms and Swiss cheese). Meat is definitely the specialty here so you may want to try the duo of lamb (a tender braise and succulent chops) or the New York steak with port wine blue cheese sauce. For non-red meat fans, there is a nice rotisserie chicken and plenty of seafood and fish, like sautéed jumbo shrimp with bacon-wrapped scallops. The sinful Bistro West mud pie has a tasty twist: the chocolate ganache is layered with both coffee and vanilla-banana ice cream and covered in chewy caramel.
