Mary Chung opened in 1977 as one of greater Boston's first, and best, Szechuan restaurants. After taking a few years off for the sake of her children, Chung returned for the sake of her regulars. Today her place is a sure thing not only for the baby boomers who first discovered authentic Chinese cuisine here, but also for the MIT students who make it their home away from home. Never mind the rather spare, brightly-lit room circled with red Naugahyde booths---it's the tightly-wrapped, wonderfully crisp spring rolls they come for, along with dun dun noodles, tossed with shredded chicken and peanut sauce, or the celebrated, wonton-based suan la chow show---the spicier the better. The chili-shy had better pipe up---or go for Cantonese instead.
