Chef Dante DeMagestris offers contemporary looks at traditional French, Spanish, and Italian cuisine. American breakfasts are also offered.
Located in the Royal Sonesta Hotel Boston, the modern art-filled 200-seater boasts two dining rooms, two bars, a lounge with a DJ-ready sound system, a patio overlooking the Charles and even a private balcony, where breakfast, lunch and dinner are served daily---by a designer-clad waitstaff, no less. As for the contemporary Mediterranean menu, chef Dante de Magistris treads seriously heady territory. De rigueur ingredients abound. There's quince here, speck there and truffle, truffle everywhere. If it's all a tad too flashy for your tastes, rest assured the pastas are mostly homey, the steak frites is comme il faut (complete with a simple but memorable watercress salad) and the "cremini & zucchini"---de Magistris's signature shaved mushroom-and-zucchini salad tarted up with lemon, capers and Parmesan---is topnotch. His $20 "inferno" brunch, brimming with decadent morning specialties, is also a heavenly experience. You won't find de Magistris at this restaurant quite as much---he opened an Italian trattoria, Il Casale, in his hometown of Belmont---but rest assured that the quality is as high as ever.
